National Education has pride of place in Henderson Secondary

SINGAPORE: National Education has its own space at Henderson Secondary School as shown in a clip submitted by students from the school for MediaCorp News’ Roving DV Competition.
The success of National Education requires more than just annual celebrations of events like National Day or Racial Harmony Day.
It requires a holistic approach to deepen the connections and bonds that Singaporeans have with each other, to their country and to the world.
In Henderson Secondary School, the staff and pupils have dedicated a part of the school to promote National Education.
Called the ’NE Square’, it is centrally located in the school to remind staff and pupils that National Education is a part of our everyday life.
Mrs Stella Tan, S2 Cluster Superintendent, Education Ministry, said: "What I like about your NE Square is the fact that you have a lot of pictures of students and teachers together with the messages. I thought that is very important."
The NE Square has been established in the school to help both staff and pupils understand more about Singapore and the other parts of the world.
By doing so, they are able to get in touch with Singapore’s past, present and coming future.
Regardless of where they are, they will draw closer together as one people who share a common history and identity. This would ensure the continual success, security and survival of our country.
Student reporter Kimberly Goh said: "Through our NE Square’s upcoming and meaningful programmes, the school hopes that both staff and pupils will continue to develop constructive and balanced mental models about Singapore as well as our relationship with the world."
